Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) machines are versatile packaging systems designed to form, fill, and seal a variety of bag types using roll stock film, tailored to the packaging requirements of different products. Vertical flow wrappers form bags from a roll of film while the product is fed into the formed film tube from above. This tube is then sealed vertically and horizontally to create individual packages. Best suited for loose, granular, or powder products such as chips, coffee, spices, or mixed salads. Its gravity-assisted feeding mechanism makes it effective for packing products that can flow into the packaging.

Types of VFFS Packaging

Pillow packs are the most common type of packaging made with VFFS machines. They are characterized by their pillow-like shape, having a flat bottom, a top seal, and a back seal that runs longitudinally from top to bottom.

Three-sided seal pouches are sealed on three sides with one side open for filling. The material is folded and then sealed on both sides and at the bottom.

Four-sided seal pouches are sealed on all four sides, offering enhanced protection and a uniform appearance. This style allows for high-quality graphics on all sides, which can be beneficial for product presentation.

Stick packs are long, narrow bags sealed on all sides, typically used for single-serve products. They use less packaging material than standard sachets.

Shaped pouches are custom-formed pouches that can be made into various shapes beyond the standard rectangular or square pouches, often used for brand differentiation.

Best For: This type of packaging is best suited for snack foods, candies, nuts, frozen foods, and other small, loose items that require a simple, cost-effective packaging solution.
